This approach enables the tracking of how pathogens evolve, spread, and adapt over time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A genomic surveillance strategy enables public health authorities to:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>detect outbreaks at an early stage;<\/li>\n<li>identify emerging variants and drug-resistant strains;<\/li>\n<li>understand transmission patterns in communities;<\/li>\n<li>inform diagnostics, treatments, and vaccination strategies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pathogen genomic surveillance is essential during public health crises and in \u2018peace\u2019 time. Indeed, genomic surveillance played a critical role during the COVID-19 pandemic but remains essential today. It supports public health responses to both emerging and endemic diseases, from respiratory infections to antimicrobial resistance. SPSP allows important and rapid data exchange in critical public health situations but also to improve our diagnostics.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Adrian Egli\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>Chair of SPSP<br \/>Director, Institute of Medical Microbiology, UZH<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_testimonial][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3><span data-contrast=\"none\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" lang=\"EN-GB\">SPSP: a robust system to support pathogen genomic surveillance<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" lang=\"EN-GB\">SPSP is the national platform to support pathogen surveillance programmes, real-time monitoring of outbreaks and of circulating strains.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" lang=\"EN-GB\"> Its integrated approach ensures a more comprehensive, real-time picture of infectious diseas<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" lang=\"EN-GB\">e dynamics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As <a href=\"\/portfolio\/surveillance-of-sars-cov-2\/\">the National SARS-CoV-2 Data Hub<\/a>, SPSP served as a model of data governance and coordination to inspire the development of other national data hubs across Europe (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sib.swiss\/news\/sib-is-co-steering-european-efforts-to-foster-open-sharing-of-sars-cov-2-genomic-data\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">read more<\/a>).
