Surveillance of SARS-CoV-2

During the pandemic (Spring 2021 - Summer 2024), SPSP was mandated by the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) to centralise, curate, annotate and share to international repositories (GISAID and the European Covid-19 Data Portal) all the SARS-CoV-2 genomic data generated within the national surveillance program.

The following laboratories contributed with data to SPSP within the national SARS-CoV-2 surveillance program funded by FOPH and led by the national reference laboratory for emerging viral infections (HUG CRIVE).

  • University Hospitals of Geneva – Virology laboratory
  • University Hospital of Lausanne – Institute of Microbiology
  • University of Bern – Institute for Infectious Diseases
  • University Hospital of Basel – Institute of Clinical Microbiology/Virology
  • University of Zurich – Institute of Medical Virology
  • Biolytix
  • Dr Risch
  • ETH Zürich, Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering, Computational Evolution Group on behalf of Viollier
  • Genesupport
  • Hôpital du Valais
  • Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale (EOC)
  • Labor Spiez
  • Spital Region Oberaargau (SRO AG)
  • Synlab (Bioggio)
  • Zentrum für Labormedizin St. Gallen

The genomic sequences were generated at the laboratories and/or sequencing facilities (H2030 Genome Center, Functional Genomics Center Zurich, Genomics Facility Basel).
